What's the difference between cles of misdemeanors in Indiana?

I got a ticket for throwing a lit cigarette out of my car. There is no drought here. I was not mouthy and had no other offenses. I shouldn't have done it I know, but It is clified as a cl A misdemeanor! This seems a bit severe to me. Someone told me to talk to the prosecutor and asking him to lessen the charges. Do they actually do that? What are the benefits of this? Does a cl A mean I will have a record?! What are the differences in cl A, B, etc. I am not knowledgable about the law. Any advice or information would be appreciated.
